Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

Watermark metadata (IDs, timestamps, image names) is stored locally on your device in an encrypted database. This data remains on your device unless you choose to sign in and enable cloud sync.

Cloud Storage

If you sign in, your watermark history can be synced to Firebase Firestore. This data is:

• Encrypted in transit using TLS
• Encrypted at rest in Google's data centres
• Accessible only to you via your authenticated account

Your Rights and Choices

Use Without an Account

You can use all core features of MarQ (encoding and decoding watermarks) without creating an account or signing in. Your data stays entirely on your device.

Data Access and Deletion

You have the right to:

• Access your data: View all your watermark history within the app
• Delete local data: Clear app data through your device settings
• Delete cloud data: Sign out and request deletion of your cloud-synced data
• Delete your account: Request account deletion

Opt-Out

You can limit data collection by:

• Using the app without signing in
• Disabling analytics in your device settings

Children's Privacy

MarQ is not directed at children under 13. MarQ does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe information has been collected from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Data Retention

• Local data: Retained until you uninstall the app or clear app data
• Cloud data: Retained until you delete your account or request deletion
• Analytics data: Retained for 14 months (Google default)
• Crash data: Retained for 90 days

International Data Transfers

If you use cloud sync, your data may be processed in data centres outside your country of residence. Google Firebase complies with applicable data protection regulations for international transfers.
